The A66 is closed in both directions after a serious collision.
Emergency services were called at around 5am to the incident, which involved a HGV and a van.
The driver in the van suffered serious injuries. The driver in the HGV was not seriously injured.
The road remains closed this afternoon in both directions between the A6 at Penrith and A685 at Brough.
It is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.
Drivers are still being asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes to travel.
