The A66 is closed in both directions after a serious collision.

Emergency services were called at around 5am to the incident, which involved a HGV.

The road is closed in both directions between the A6 at Penrith and A685 at Brough.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes to travel this morning.

Cumbria police are leading the response to a serious collision, reported to National Highways at 5.24am.

The closure has been established to ensure the safety of the emergency services who are responded to the incident at scene.

There are long delays on the A66 in both directions as full traffic management closures are still being established and traffic approaching the scene of the collision is being diverted via local routes, National Highways.
