The northbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 39 and 40 will be closed overnight on Sunday.
National Highways said the road will be closed from Junction 39 at Shap to Junction 40 at Penrith from 8pm on Sunday June 14 to 5am on Monday June 15.
The closure will allow Network Rail to remove the temporary safety barrier on the motorway following the work earlier this year to replace Clifton bridge.
Following this work, the speed limit through the roadworks will be 50mph along the full stretch.
Speed enforcement cameras will also be removed.
During the closure a diversion will be in place via the A6, with temporary speed reduction measures installed along the route.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained where possible.
