A walking tour will be held later this month to celebrate the heritage of the area around Carlisle’s historic public baths.
Organised by The Friends of Carlisle Victorian & Turkish Baths charity, it will take place on Sunday, June 28 at 10.30am and last around an hour.
The tour focuses on the heritage of the area, known as old Wapping, and the changes that have taken place over the decades.
People will learn about the origins of the ‘bog road’, the changes brought about by the construction of Victoria Viaduct, and why the area was chosen as the site for Carlisle public baths.
Mary Galashan, events organiser for the Friends, said: “We have become fascinated by the city’s heritage since we began our campaign to save Carlisle’s historic baths.
“This walking talk offers an opportunity to discover more about the area immediately around the public baths, as well as the people who helped to develop and construct our Border city.”
Tickets, at £6, are available at carlislebaths.co.uk/events/walking-tour-of-old-wapping-carlisle/
Ticket sales will support the charity’s fundraising towards reopening the North West’s last remaining Victorian Turkish Baths.
