Jay Cartmell

Workington Comets and the Cartmell family have confirmed the teams for the Jay’s Four-team Tournament Memorial Meeting.

It’s set to be staged at the GT Tyres Arena, Northside on Saturday 27 June at 3pm.

Once again, and as per the 2025 meeting, the teams are named after Jay’s favourite video game Fortnite.

The promotion, supporters club and the Cartmell family have managed to pull together a strong, evenly-balanced line-up with also some exciting riders from the continent making their debuts in this country.

Rasmus Pedersen, Ludvig Selvin, Viktor Larsen and Anton Karlsson are names for the future. Could one of these riders be a future Comet?

The youth pairings have also been confirmed for the meeting, with a different twist and decided on what was last year’s reserve heats.

The reserves races now becomes an eight-rider, six-heat pairs format.

Rider Sponsorship opportunities are still available for numerous riders (as per the lineups below) for £200.

There are also still some opportunities for fans to be the team manager for one of these teams on the day (£100), meaning taking charge of your team and potentially leading them to victory and lifting the trophy.

Heat sponsorship (from £20) and Rider mascots (£10) on the day are also available.

MIDAS’ METEORS – Team manager: TBC

  • Craig Cook (Sponsored by Les and Michelle Cartmell) – 2026 Comet Cook will return to action for Jay’s meeting after a couple of week absence, and no doubt Workington fans will be delighted to see the local rider back.
  • Bastian Borke (Sponsored by Ashley Rudd Construction) – Former Berwick rider Bastian Borke will make his return to the UK. Borke is coming back after recovering from a potential career ending crash for the Bandits in 2024. He will be hopeful of a performance which will catch the eyes of promoters heading into 2027.
  • Viktor Larsen (Sponsored by: Roy Clarke) – The younger Brother of popular Dane and a former rider Kenni Larsen, will make his UK debut at Jay’s meeting and again it’s a useful opportunity for the youngster to showcase his talents in the UK.
  • Adam Roynon (Sponsorship Available) – A firm fan favourite in his time with Comets over years gone by and he will once again dust off the kevlars, and make a return to racing for Jay for one night only!

BLAZES’ BANDITS – Team manager: Stuart Anderson

  • Troy Batchelor (Sponsored by: Bryan Wilcock) –  Comets Skipper Troy Batchelor will once again line-up for Jay’s Memorial and comes in with some decent league form behind him for.
  • Anton Karlsson (Sponsorship Available) – Another British Speedway debutant making an appearance at Northside and will be keen to catch the eye.
  • Vinnie Foord (Sponsored by: Paul Tremble) – One of the many Comets featuring in the lineup for Jay, Vinnie has just recently returned from an injury and will star alongside his club captain Batchelor.
  • Dayle Wood (Sponsorship Available) – Wood who rides for the Oxford Cheetahs in the Championship has proved to be one of the Cheetahs signings of the season with some strong early season form.

RAGNAROK’S RACERS – Team manager: Graeme Hill

  • Rider TBC
  • Jody Scott (Sponsorship Available) – Recently crowned runner-up in the British U21 final, Scott has had numerous strong performances at Northside most notably finishing runner up in the Under-19 Final last year.
  • Ludvig Selvin (Sponsorship Available) – Swedish youngster, aged 22, comes over with high accolades from former British Speedway star and Swedish national team coach Linus Sundstrom.
  • Max Perry (Sponsored by Graeme, Jason and Jordan Hill) – Max was brought in by the Workington promotion and has never looked back after some strong performances so far in Comets colours. Grabbing his return to Championship racing with both hands!

DEADFIRE’S DEMONS – Team manager: TBC

  • Kevin Juhl Pedersen (Sponsorship Available) – Kevin Juhl Pedersen made his UK debut in Jay’s memorial last year and in the process of scoring a maximum, caught the eye of numerous promoters eventually leading to him lining up for the Glasgow Tigers in 2026.
  • Rasmus Pedersen (Sponsored by: JMH Motors) – Exciting Danish Youngster Rasmus Pedersen will join the lineup with many eyes on the Dane to see how he handles the Notrthside track. He has international experience with Denmark at Youth and Senior level and is sure to be one to watch on the day!
  • Dan Gilkes (Sponsorship Available) – Snapped up by Scunthorpe last month after not turning a wheel for his initial team, Poole due to injury, Dan will be looking for a strong return to racing after recent injuries have blighted his couple of seasons.
  • Kyle Bickley (Sponsorship Available) – Local rider Kyle Bickley will make his return to competitive racing, but is it for one night only? We will see! Kyle was part of the 2018 treble-winning Comets team, then a 16-year-old and now returning to racing at his local track after stepping away from speedway in 2023.

YOUTH PAIRS:

Team 1: Jack Shimelt & Owen Booth (Sponsored by Steve Brock)
Team 2: Ben Whalley & Jack Franklin
(Sponsored by Les and Michelle Cartmell)
Team 3: Patrik Daniszewski & Joe Crewe
(Sponsored by: Leanne and Mya Williams   //   Les and Michelle Cartmell)
Team 4: Laylen Richardson & Max Broadhurst
(Sponsored by: Les and Michelle Cartmell   //   Shuker Building & Development)

A lineup packed full a talent, with some returning faces and some new faces to British Speedway.

It promises to be another exciting but special day for Jay on Saturday 27 June.
