Two firms are set to appear in court next week following a Barrow fire in 2023.

Copperplane Limited and My Space Housing Solutions Limited will appear at Barrow Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 22, in connection with the blaze at 47 Storey Square on June 1 2023.

Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries and third man was taken to Furness General Hospital for smoke inhalation. A man was arrested on suspicion of arson.

Landlord Copperplane, of Albany Road, Weymouth, Dorset, faces 11 charges.

It is accused of failing to comply with requirements or prohibitions which placed people at risk of serious injury or death due to fire.

It includes failure to take measures to prevent the spread of fire, a failure to make a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, failure to provide appropriate firefighting equipment, that routes to emergency exits and exits were kept clear, and failure to provide adequate fire doors.

Others include failing to keep the fire alarm and emergency lighting systems maintained and failing to co-operate with My Space Housing.

My Space Housing Solutions Limited, based in Chorley New Road in Horwich, near Bolton in Greater Manchester, is charged with 12 counts of a responsible person failing to comply with requirements or prohibitions in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.

It is also accused of failing to properly maintain an appropriate fire evacuation procedure.

My Space Housing Solutions is a charity which provides supported housing for vulnerable adults.
