Career development and the future of the legal profession were key topics on the agenda as the University of Cumbria hosted the president of the Law Society of England and Wales.
The university’s Student Law Society welcomed Mark Evans to the Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle recently.
The discussion covered topics relevant to aspiring legal professionals, including networking, career opportunities, professional confidence, and the different pathways available within legal practice.
Following the visit, Mark said: “It was a pleasure to meet representatives from the academic team and the Student Law Society at the University of Cumbria.
“The visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the work of the Law Society and how we can inform and support law students as they enter the legal profession.
“This is a time of big change and great opportunity for the legal sector.”
The Law Society is the professional body for solicitors in England and Wales, representing the profession and advocating for access to justice and the rule of law.
Representing the University of Cumbria at the event were law lecturer Kieron Metcalf, president of the Student Law Society Ellie McKenna, vice president (social) Lara Pollington, and vice president (academic) Charlie Hooper.
Kieron said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to speak directly with the president of the Law Society of England and Wales and to gain valuable insight into the profession.
“We are very grateful to Mark for taking the time to meet with our Student Law Society, answer questions, and offer such thoughtful advice on networking, career development and the many opportunities available to future legal professionals.”
