
People are urged to help prevent wildfires as temperatures increase.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said the risk of wildfires increase with hot and dry weather and asked people to follow advice to help keep the county safe.
It said people could prevent wildfires by:
- Not having open fires, campfires or barbecues
- Putting out cigarettes completely
- Taking all litter home
- Taking care while parking by not blocking access roads, tracks or gates
- Being aware that hot exhaust pipes on dry grass can ignite fires
What to do if you spot a wildfire
If you spot a wildfire, get to a safe place and call 999, telling the emergency servicces as much as you can about the location – use What3Words if possible – the direction of the fire and what is burning.
