Whitehaven coach James Newton has acknowledged the determination of his side to turn the Ortus Rec into a fortress.
Sunday’s 46-16 win over Goole Vikings was the fourth successive home win and launched Haven into the final play-off place.
“When Gus and I took over the coaching what we said then was how we wanted to turn the Ortus Rec into a fortress, so it’s good that is starting to bear fruit with four wins in a row,” he said.
Perhaps the disappointing fact is that although Whitehaven have five more Championship games left to play, only one – against Dewsbury Rams – is a home fixture.
Newton has also disclosed that the club has a list of potential recruits to approach over the next few weeks as they continue their policy of running with a major local in-put to the squad.
