Firefighters are still at the scene of a blaze at a Cumbrian castle.
Over 12 crews were called to the Grade II*-listed Armathwaite Castle, south of Carlisle, at around 7.34pm yesterday, Wednesday July 22.
Firefighters worked overnight to extinguish the blaze, with eight fire engines, plus a number of specialists in attendance.
People were asked to avoid the area and not to attend the scene. People living in the vicinity were also asked to keep their windows closed.
Roads were closed nearby while emergency services were tackling the blaze.
No casualties were reported.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said the response has been scaled down and firefighters are there to monitor for any signs of reignition.
It added investigation work will be getting underway to try to establish the most likely cause of the fire.
