A healthy crowd of 333 joined in the tributes at Frenchfield yesterday for club chairman Billy Williams who died earlier in the week.
Unfortunately Penrith couldn’t deliver the win that would have graced the occasion as Easington Colliery went home with the points from a 1-0 victory.
The visitors probably edged the first-half as their big, robust side posed a few problems for Penrith and scored the only goal two minutes from half-time.
A set piece wasn’t properly cleared and when it came back in Liam Anderson was there to finish off with what proved to be the only goal of the game.
Penrith played much the better football in the second half and went close on more than the one occasion when they had an effort cleared off the line.
But it just wouldn’t go for the Bonny Blues who must hope for better luck on Tuesday night when they are at home again, this time to Blyth Town who lead the first table after a 6-0 win over Birtley Town.
