Carlisle City took the bragging rights after the first Cumbrian derby of the new Northern League season.
They beat Kendal Town 3-1 at Gillford Park in front of 256 fans, about half of whom had travelled with the visitors.
Generally, though, it was the home supporters who had most to feel pleased about as City dominated the game for long periods and looked physically stronger than Kendal.
They had gone in front after 34 minutes through Rob McCartney and juts before the break Henry Walker nipped in to double the lead.
The first 20 minutes of the second half was Kendal’s best spell of the game and they equalised on 65 minutes through Charlie McGladdery.
That could have been the signal for Kendal to take charge but it was City who responded best.
They had the chance to make it 3-1 after 75 minutes from the penalty spot but McCartney’s effort was saved by Kendal keeper Matt Bailey.
Kendal kept pushing, however, and when they were awarded a second penalty five minutes later Jordan Little made no mistake.
Both teams are back in action in mid-week with Kendal Town at Newcastle Blue Star on Tuesday and Carlisle City travelling to Whickham on Wednesday.
Blue Star lost at home to Redcar Town 3-2 yesterday while Whickham drew 1-1 at Marske.
