An illegally modified bicycle has been seized and will be crushed, and a Carlisle delivery driver faces a court date for multiple traffic offences.
Cumbria police said its neighbourhood policing team in the city was continuing to target illegal motorbikes and bicycles in Carlisle and rural areas.
Officers caught a delivery driver who had been riding the modified bicycle at speed in the city centre.
Carlisle police said: “The rider had previously been spotted riding in an anti-social manner.
“The driver will receive a court date through the post.”
Officers said the bicycle was illegal because it could be throttle-ridden without pedalling to over 20mph. The legal limit for throttle assistance is 3.5mph.
The bicycle’s hub motor was 1000 watts, which exceeds the legal limit of 250 watts. Its pedal assist also exceeded 20mph, above the legal limit of 15.5mph.
Officers said they also gathered information and CCTV sightings of illegal motorbikes across multiple areas of Carlisle during the patrols.
