A Cumbrian charity’s fundraising walk is returning after a successful first year.
Annie Mawson’s Sunbeams Music Trust will hold the Sunbeams September Stroll on September 6 and funds raised from the walk will support its community music therapy programmes, which reach more than 2,600 disabled and disadvantaged children and adults every month.
Sessions take place at the Sunbeams Music Centre, online, and across more than 55 outreach venues including residential homes and community centres.
The tree-lined trail follows the former Keswick to Penrith Railway, which forms part of the Lake District National Park’s Walking Without Stiles route.
Participants can choose between a 3.1-mile walk from Keswick to Threlkeld or complete a 6.2-mile return route.
Penrith Building Society is the main sponsor for the fundraiser.
It said: “We’re delighted to support Sunbeams Music Trust. The work Sunbeams carries out has a truly positive impact on the lives of local people and their families, and we’re proud to help raise awareness and funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
Keswick Lions and the Rotary Club of Keswick will marshal the route. Volunteers will serve cake along the trail, with cream scones and refreshments provided at Threlkeld Village Hall.
The event will take place on the afternoon of Sunday September 6. Entry is £10 for adults, £25 for a family ticket covering two adults and two children, £5 for additional children, and is free for children under three.
People are encouraged to raise a suggested minimum sponsorship of £20 per adult and £50 per family. Dogs on leads are welcome, and advance booking is essential.
