[A] nine-hole golf fun day at Carus Green Golf Club has raised £1,762.00 for Lancashire-based charity, Rosemere Cancer Foundation. The mixed competition, which was attended by more than 40 participants was organised by Carus member, Norma Owen, in an attempt to raise funds for the Foundation’s 20th anniversary appeal, which hopes to hit an ambitious £1.5 million target.

Norma, who is a member of the Dallam Rosemere Cancer Foundation supporters group, has described Rosemere as being ‘close to my heart’, with a number of family members having received its support while being treated at the centre. Located at the Royal Preston Hospital, it is South Cumbria’s and Lancashire’s regional specialist cancer treatment centre.

Selling more than 1000 raffle tickets ahead of the event, Norma approached a number of individuals and local businesses for prizes, with many giving generously. The Gilpin Hotel donated dinner for four in their new ‘Spice’ restaurant, Windermere-based ‘Lakeland’ donated a Tefal soup maker and the Midland Hotel in Morecombe, afternoon tea for two. With Carus donating the tee-times and conditions fine, a most enjoyable day was had by all, as Norma explains: “I am delighted that so many supporters turned out to enjoy the day. It was a very good humoured competition of course, with non-golfing partners doing the putting! Most importantly, we raised a considerable sum for an extremely worthy cause. I should like to thank everybody who attended, all those who donated a raffle prize and Carus Green for their generosity and hosting the event.”
