[A] SOUTH Cumbria man has been sentenced for punching his then girlfriend as they argued during a car journey.

Tomas Bryan Wilkinson, 26, pleaded guilty to a common assault on Imogen Macro when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (TUES).

The court heard Wilkinson had punched Miss Macro once to the arm during an row on October 15 last year.

Miss Macro was said to have suffered bruising in the incident, which was reported to police on her behalf after she visited a friend.

Wilkinson, of Church Road, Allithwaite, was given a three-month prison sentence for the offence by Judge James Adkin, who heard of the defendant’s previous convictions for violence.

But having served time in custody on remand, Judge Adkin said Wilkinson was set to be released immediately.

A restraining order was imposed which forbids Wilkinson from contacting Miss Macro in any way for two years.
