[G]roupe Geraud is set to launch a ‘Love Your Local Market’ event in Market Square, Keswick on May 11th.

The nationwide Love Your Local Markets campaign promotes markets and their important place in communities. Keswick has been chosen by NABMA the national markets authority to launch the campaign from over 1400 Markets taking place, due to its incredibly popular twice weekly market.

Following the success of similar events in market towns such as Brixton and Wallsend, the ‘Love Your Local Market’ launch in the centre of Keswick will provide local sellers with the opportunity to showcase their goods at an exciting new family event. Events such as Pirate Day, which ran for last year’s Love Your Local Market made for great family fun and due to popularity is set to be repeated on 29th May.

Keswick Market, which is run in collaboration with Allerdale Council, was voted 2015 Best Outdoor Market in the UK and is a key part of the town’s community, now celebrating its 741st year of trading. The market runs regularly on Thursdays and Saturdays selling a variety of award winning food and gifts. The local market offers an alternative shopping destination to the high street, and Groupe Geraud’s Love Your Local Market event plans to celebrate and encourage local trade in Keswick.

Love Your Local Market is sure to promote the best Keswick has to offer with 48 independent traders and entertainment throughout the day. Speeches will start the event at 10am with the rest of the festivities to follow. Market goers can enjoy visits from a Jazz band and food demonstrations from local traders.

Appearances from the town crier and Lord Mayor will bring the focus back to the local identity of the market. The Jazz band parade is sure to entertain shoppers as they browse through the variety of stalls on offer.

Well known stalls such as Indian Delights selling homemade treats, Fat Flour Bakery selling bread and Annette’s Kitchen selling homemade chocolates will entice shoppers with their craft goods. Other stalls selling homemade teddy bear, glass art and local meats and pies, are sure to attract passers-by with their artisan produce.

Philip Lamb Managing Director of Geraud UK said: “Love Your Local Market, is an event put in place to encourage the people of great market towns such as Keswick to shop locally and celebrate the talent of the artisan makers at the market.

“Keswick has such a wide array of local market traders. Each bringing a personal touch to their produce. The Love Your Local market event is set to be a great day for the whole family and truly showcase Keswick’s local produce.”
