Ophthalmologist eye[C]umbria County Council is supporting local charity Lakes Vision Services with funding to run a series of ‘Technology Awareness’ sessions and surgeries at Carlisle Fire Station on Eastern Way during the summer.

The sessions take place throughout July – 7, 14, 21 and 28 between 1pm and 4pm.  The sessions are aimed at anyone experiencing issues relating to sight loss who may be seeking advice or support – e.g. perhaps you are no longer able to read small print or see your mobile phone screen.  The Lakes Vision Services team will be on hand to provide advice, guidance and to signpost to other local services and organisations that can help support people with a visual impairment.  If you would like to book a space at one of these sessions, please contact the Lakes Vision team by telephone on 0191 308 1799, or email [email protected]

Lakes Vision Services is also hosting an exhibition at the Morton Manor Community Hall in Carlisle on Friday 30 June between 10am and 3pm.  The exhibition is open to the general public and all professionals working in the disability sector – particularly in the area of sight loss and visual impairment.  Any students applying for DSA grants should also use this opportunity to see what equipment is available, and the event is also an ideal opportunity for employers who may have disabled staff to learn more about their responsibilities, the difference they can make, and the services available locally to support both employers and employees.

There will be an emphasis on assistive technologies for the blind and partially sighted people as well as partner services and organisations that provide services for deaf people or those with a hearing impairment.  Some of the organisations attending the exhibition include:  Enhanced Vision, Dolphin, Humanware, Cumbria Blind Societies Partnership, HITE, Baum UK and Blind Veterans.

The venue is ideally situated with ample car parking, a cafe on site and some beautiful gardens to sit in and admire.
