IMG_1953[K]eswick pet shop Podgy Paws is preparing once again to help host the town’s very own dog show. On Sunday 25th of June, Fitz Park will play host to the Keswick Scruffs Fun Dog Show – the town has won the Kennel Club’s ‘Most Dog Friendly Town’ award for four of the last five years.

Keswick Scruffs, which has been organised through a collaboration between Podgy Paws Pet Shop and Keswick Town Council, is set to treat local dog lovers to a fabulous day of doggy demonstrations. The itinerary includes 19 fun canine classes and a Dogtathlon Obstacle course.

With a range of classes, there is a class for canines of all shapes and sizes, with prizes and rosettes being awarded from 1st to 4th places. In line with the show’s fun and friendly ethos there will also be a range of not-so-typical show classes, including Best Biscuit Catcher, Smiliest Dog and the Waggiest Tail awards.

Class winners will be awarded with a variety of fantastic prizes kindly donated by local businesses with the winner of Keswick Scruff’s Best in Show 2017 landing themselves a collection of Ezydog accessories, provided by Podgy Paws, to the value of £180.

Chris Harper, owner of Podgy Paws, said: “It’s fantastic news that Keswick has once again been voted the most dog-friendly town in the UK, we really are a town of dog lovers and it makes us incredibly proud to be involved in supporting the wonderful Keswick Scruffs Dog Show.”

This year also sees an unusual addition to the day of two demonstrations of Medieval Combat. Local dentist James Breedon, along with his club Battle Heritage, will be staging the demonstrations in the show ring – James has recently returned from representing the UK at the Battle of Nations 2017 in Barcelona.

Alongside the exciting activities of the day, there will be a variety of food and trade stands showcasing dog themed products and gifts, animal welfare charity stands and even a bouncy castle. The show field will open from 10:30am to 5pm with the first class beginning at 11:30am.

Pre-registration for the show is now open at Podgy Paws. Alternatively classes can be entered on the day. All class entries cost £3 and are sold on a first come, first served basis. Entry to the show field is free.
