Master Composters are coming to Cumbria

master composter[C]umbria County Council is delighted to have funded a nationally recognised volunteer Master Composter programme to be delivered by Garden Organic, the national charity for organic growing.

The Master Composter programme is part of the council’s strategy to reduce the burden of waste across the county by teaching people how to compost their own waste at home.

The Master Composter programme works by training up local ‘Master Composters’ who then go out into their local community – to events, community groups and schools to pass on their knowledge to others.

Garden Organic is looking for enthusiastic local volunteers in Allerdale, Copeland, Eden and South Lakeland to get involved in the programme.

Volunteer Master Composters will be fully trained, provided with ongoing support, and become part of a network of like-minded volunteers. Being a compost expert is not essential to become a volunteer. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to spread the compost message in your local community and encourage more people to start composting at home.

Volunteer training will be taking place on Saturday 22 July in Penrith and early booking is essential.

For more information contact Garden Organic’s Project Officer in Cumbria, Liz Sutton by email [email protected] or telephone 024  7621 7742
