Patrols around a Lake District beauty spot last weekend have been hailed a success.
Officers from Westmorland and Furness Council’s locality enforcement team, the National Trust and the Lake District National Park Authority patrolled Coniston.
In a social media post today, Thursday July 23, the council said the partnership delivered excellent results including:
- 10 fires and barbecues extinguished
- 7 dog owners advised about the risks of blue-green algae
- Over 50 members of the public engaged with
- 10 overnight campers spoken to
- 8 bags of litter collected
The authority added: “The patrols focused on education and engagement, helping visitors understand the importance of protecting the local environment and respecting the area for everyone who enjoys it.
“Officers also dismantled a number of fire pits and highlighted the damage that fires can cause to the landscape.
“Working together with partner organisations helps keep Coniston safe, clean and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.
“Thank you to everyone involved in making the patrols such a success.”
