[A] DRUGGED-up burglar who left a disabled pensioner “terrified” after raiding his home while he was watching television has been jailed.

Nathaniel Joseph Rudd wore socks over his hands as he brazenly walked into the 76-year-old’s Cleator Moor flat in the early hours of June 4.

Rudd rifled through drawers and snatched £150 in coins and notes before fleeing.

Carlisle Crown Court heard 28-year-old Rudd was later detained by police who recovered a bag of loot he had discarded. This contained some of the pensioner’s property plus other items – including electrical goods and even two parking tickets – he had pinched when breaking into vehicles.

Rudd, of Mercer Road, Prenton, Wirral, was locked up for three years today (MON). He admitted one burglary charge and four thefts.

He was said to have little memory of his crime spree having taken “a number of substances”.

By contrast, Judge Barbara Forrester was told, Rudd’s elderly burglary victim had been left feeling “terrified”, “nervous” and “scared” in his own home.
