Memorial tree damaged in Egremont

[A] tree which was planted in memory of one of the victims of the West Cumbria shootings has been damaged.

The damage was caused at approximately 10pm on 20th July when an offender, who was part of a group of young people, snapped the established tree in half at Wyndham Place, Egremont.

The tree was dedicated to Isaac Dixon.

Mayor of Copeland Mike Starkie said: “Any act of vandalism is unacceptable, but when you consider the reason why this tree was planted, it makes this episode absolutely despicable and shows a complete lack of respect.

“I knew Isaac well – he was a popular figure in the Egremont area – and my thoughts are with his friends and family who were brought some solace in light of his tragic death by the planting of this tree in his memory. It goes without saying that Copeland Council will replace this tree in the autumn time.”

Anyone with information should email [email protected] or 101 quoting log reference 262 of the 20th July. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
