[C]umbria County Council’s Eden Local Committee today agreed an allocation for over £100,000 to its Community budgets.  The funding will be used to deliver and support local projects with a proportion being made available as grant funds for the community to access.

The committee uses its budgets to enable projects which supports their priorities and that the committee hopes will make a difference locally; improving access to services, developing strong and resilient communities, and supporting a better quality of jobs in the area.

At the same meeting, over £22,000 of cash injections were agreed by councillors to support projects delivering a range of youth activity in the district.  £5,000 went to Brough-based CHOFHS youth group towards new equipment and youth work; £3,000 went to East Cumbria Family Support Association for an IT upgrade to support their work with families in Eden; £5,000 to Euphoric Circus to establish a circus-based youth activity in Appleby; £4,940 to Fairhill Community Group towards new play equipment at the Park at Fairhill, Penrith and £4,395 to Eden Carers to run activities throughout the school holidays for Eden’s young carers.

Councillor David Whipp, Chair of Eden Local Committee, said: “I’m delighted that we, as a local committee, are able to offer these grants and give people of all ages the chance to participate in community activities of all kinds. They promote and develop strong and resilient communities in our rural and isolated areas which is one of Eden Local Committee’s key priorities.”

For more information on the grants available please contact the Eden Community Development team on 01768 812660 or visit Cumbria County Council’s website.
