[P]olice were called at approximately 00:25am this morning (Tuesday 8th August), to the report of a serious assault involving two men.
The incident occurred on Senhouse Street, Maryport.
A 34-year-old man received stab wounds and was taken to Carlisle Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition.
Police and other emergency services attended the scene. The area remains cordoned off whilst enquiries continue. There are no road closures.
A 32-year-old man from Carlisle has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
