[C]onvicted killer, Russell Snowdon, 42, from County Durham was today sentenced at Glasgow High Court to over 10 years imprisonment following a bank raid.
Snowdon and an accomplice teamed up to blast open a cash machine at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Langholm in November 2016.
Snowdon also admitted trying to break-out from Dumfries jail while on remand in March this year. Lady Dorrian jailed him for a total of around eight and a half years for the robbery offences.
The judge added a further two years for the prison escape bid.
A Land Rover used in the raid was stolen from a house on English Street in Longtown sometime overnight Thursday 27/Friday 28 October 2016.
The Land Rover still had its original number plates on when it was found burning a short time after the raid on the B6318 south of Skippers Bridge.
Speaking after the sentence Detective Sergeant Colin McKinstry said: “This was a considerable enquiry which was helped in no small part by those living in the Langholm community who came forward with crucial information.
“This sentence clearly reflects the seriousness of the crime and once again sends out a strong message to any would be criminals that they will pay a heavy price if they think they can commit crime and get away with it just because this is a rural area.
“Police Scotland will continue to work with our communities to ensure that our people and our property are kept safe from those who might think we are a soft touch.”
