[C]OPELAND Mayor Mike Starkie has announced a series of public meetings.
Mr Starkie will hold four events across the borough next month to give residents the chance to hear updates on a host of Copeland Council projects and to raise their own questions and issues.
A representative of West Cumbria Mining will also be in attendance to provide an update on the firm’s plans to extract coking coal with a processing plant in Whitehaven, with the creation of over 500 jobs.
The meetings all start at 6pm and will take place on:
- Wednesday, September 6 – The Clock Tower, Millom
- Wednesday, September 13 – Egremont Rugby League Club
- Tuesday, September 19 – Cleator Moor Civic Hall
- Tuesday, September 26 – The Beacon Portal, Whitehaven
Mr Starkie said: “When I was elected as Mayor I made a pledge that the Council will be open and transparent, and be accountable to the public.
“I’ve always made public meetings a priority, and those that have been held in the past have been well attended with a number of interesting and challenging questions raised.
“I’d urge everyone to attend to raise and discuss the issues that are priorities for their neighbourhoods and home towns.”
Following a presentation from Mr Starkie, the floor will be opened up for questions from the public. If you would like a question answered but prefer not to raise it in public, email it in advance to [email protected]
