[C]lose to 2,000 participants completed the latest Born Survivor obstacle run at Lowther Castle at the weekend, which featured specially designed and military-inspired obstacles on a 10km off-road course.
Kevin Bedford, Born Survivor’s event director, said, “It was another fantastically muddy day for everyone who took part. Seeing so many people, from fundraisers and workmates, to elite racers and fitness enthusiasts come together to enjoy our event is a real thrill and the atmosphere they help create is always electric. This was our tenth event and the fifth time returning to the beautiful Lowther Estate, where our growing reputation as one of the UK’s leading obstacle events helped draw people from across the country.”
After a safety briefing and warm up delivered by a team of professional army PTs, waves of up to 300 people were set off throughout the day from the Born Survivor event village. Here, participants and spectators were able to enjoy changing facilities, bag storage, as well as festival style catering, music, shops and attractions including a children’s obstacle course.
The day also saw Born Survivor hold the Elite Squadron race; a highly competitive first wave that offers participants the chance to race each other over the 10km course at the very start of the day. Competition was fierce, with obstacle race athletes Russell Parrington and Dominique Searle winning the male and female categories respectively.
Kevin Bedford said, “Individuals and teams of all abilities choose to come and enjoy our Born Survivor events because they offer a challenging, but enjoyable and safe day out for everyone who takes part. This commitment to delivering consistently high quality events in beautiful locations, means many of our participants come back time and again. Whilst we hold events elsewhere, our Lake District event is definitely the jewel in the crown and we can’t wait to return in 2018.”
Born Survivor’s sponsors and partners were in attendance at Lowther Castle and included Sub Sports, Grenade Nutrition, The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, The Soldiers’ Charity and Unique Kidz.
Safety, radio and paramedic cover was provided by Jigsaw and Preston based Bowland Communications, with obstacle marshals provided by Lancaster’s FGH Security team.
