[P]am Reid, from Ulverston, has been awarded for her dedication to the NHS after being part of health services across Cumbria for the last 50 years.
Pam first joined the NHS in 1967 as a Secretary in the Ulverston Health Authority Office, before becoming a Higher Clerical Officer at Ulverston Hospital. She then transferred to Furness General Hospital in Barrow in the early 2000’s when University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) was formed, and has been providing administrative support in the Hospital’s General Office since 2003.
To honour her commitment to the thousands of patients and staff she has helped over the years, Pam was awarded with a long service award on 31st October.
After receiving the award, Pam said: “I am not someone of many words, but I just want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone I have worked with for all your support and kindness over the last 50 years.”
Dave Passant, Divisional Manager of Facilities at UHMBT, and John Barstow, HR Business Partner, presented Pam with her award, as well as gifts from the Trust and Pam’s colleagues.
David Wilkinson, Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, said: “There’s not many days in the workplace that we celebrate the fact that one of our colleagues has reached 50 years’ service. We want to celebrate this magnificent achievement and also thank Pam for her service in reaching this milestone.”
Alison Vickers, Patient Services Manager at Furness General Hospital, has known Pam for over 14 years and added: “In the office we call Pam ‘The Machine’ because she works really hard and is the fittest out of everyone. She has long days travelling from Ulverston but you would never hear her complain. She is such a great part of our team and we’re so pleased we can celebrate this great achievement with her.”
As Pam approaches her 70th birthday in March, she revealed that there are no plans for her retirement just yet: “I am not looking to retire at the moment as I truly enjoy coming in to work and am looking forward to my years to come!”
