[A] MAN who yelled at his ex-partner in the street before making a menacing phone call to her mother has been handed a prison term.
Ronald John Carter was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (TUES) for a string of crimes which occurred this summer.
In June, 58-year-old Carter was found with a Stanley knife in public in the city centre – his second blade offence in just over a year. He then stole booze from a shop two weeks later.
On July 17, he shouted at his ex, Debbie Hewer, in Carlisle’s Victoria Road. She was forced to take refuge in a nearby post office, and left feeling “paranoid and frightened”.
Days later, Carter made an intimidating night-time phone call to Ms Hewer’s mother, Kim Cleverly, who had provided a statement about the earlier matter.
Carter, of Tait Street, Carlisle, also breached two previous court orders having been a man of good character until 2016.
A 44-week prison term was imposed by Judge Barbara Forrester. Carter was also made subject to a 10-year restraining order which prohibits him from contacting or approaching the two female victims in any way.
