L-R: Sally Hardy (RSA Chief Executive), Professor Ron Martin (RSA President) Gail Mulvey, Frank Peck and Professor Mark Tewdwr-Jones (incoming Chair of RSA) at the Annual President’s Event, 2017.

[U]niversity researchers have been recognised for their tireless efforts to deliver a highly valued Regional Studies publication for the last nine years at a glittering reception in London.

Professor Frank Peck and Dr Gail Mulvey from the University of Cumbria received the award that recognised their ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Regional Studies Association (RSA)’ as editors of Regions magazine for the past nine years. The award was presented at the RSA Annual President’s event held in London on 16 November 2017.

Sally Hardy, Chief Executive of the RSA, presented the team with the award and had this to say about them;

“The association owes an enormous debt of gratitude to the current editorial team who have masterfully edited Regions for almost a decade. Taking over in 2009, the magazine has been in safe hands and has developed into a much valued membership benefit.”

“As well as acting as editor-in-chief, Frank Peck has served for a decade as a board member. His many contributions over the years have been part of so many important decisions for the future of the association.”

“Gail Mulvey has been at core of Regions throughout this period. She has managed the magazine on a day-to-day basis demonstrating skilful editing, meticulous planning and courteous liaison. Without Gail, 36 issues of Regions would not have landed on our doorsteps and we collectively owe her a debt of gratitude for her work during this period.”

Regions  is the RSA Members’ publication. It contains short articles on research themes and news and reports on events that are of current interest to members worldwide.

Frank Peck is a Research Professor in Regional Development at the University of Cumbria’s Centre for Regional Economic Development (CRED), based at its Brampton Road campus. He specialises in conducting research on regional economies and provides consultancy services for external agencies and organisations involved in local and regional development.

Dr Gail Mulvey is a research fellow and her main areas of expertise are economics of the labour market, industrial economics, and regional economic development.

The third member of the editorial team, Ignazio Cabras, is a former CRED researcher who is now Professor of Entrepreneurship and Regional Economic Development at Northumbria University.
