West Cumbria shoplifters facing sentence

Carlisle Crown Court

[T]WO West Cumbria thieves have admitted a string of shoplifting offences.

Albert Robert Newell, 23, and 35-year-old Samantha Zoe Conway carried out one of the crimes together.

Both have admitted that they jointly stole almost £80 worth of alcohol and milk from Whitehaven’s Pelican garage in late October.

Newell pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday over a video link from custody. He will be sentenced for that, and three other shop thefts, by a judge at the court this coming Friday.

Newell has also accepted that his recent criminal conduct puts him in breach of a suspended prison sentence he received in August last year for drugs offences.

Meanwhile, Conway, of Windermere Road, Whitehaven, is due to be sentenced for her role in the theft from the garage at Workington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow,

She also admits stealing alcohol worth almost £100 from two other Whitehaven stores on different dates, and assaulting two police constables in the town on October 25.
