[A] MAN who downloaded hundreds of images of child sex abuse which a judge described as “heinous” has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Between July, 2016, and June last year, 39-year-old Clive Calvert downloaded hundreds of illegal images of children.
Almost 200 of more than 1,000 pictures, Carlisle Crown Court heard, were classed in the most serious category A.
Calvert, of Ireby, was sentenced today (MON) for six offences. He had admitted three counts of making indecent images; one possession charge; possessing two extreme pornographic images featuring animals, and possessing 141 prohibited pictures.
Calvert told police he had not viewed most of the images he downloaded. He was a man of previous good character and had sought help to address his offending behaviour.
Recorder Julie Clemitson called the images “heinous”. But having heard mitigation, she suspended a 12-month prison term for two years.
Calvert must complete a rehabilitation requirement and 120 hours’ unpaid work. He must also sign the Sex Offenders’ Register and obey the strict terms of a sexual harm prevention order, both for 10 years.
