[F]ive students from Lakes College have been lucky enough to be selected to represent the North West England rugby sevens team in Nottingham in April later year. The National weekend sports festival will take place at Nottingham University. Lakes College Sports department regularly enters various cups and sporting festivals through the AOC (association of colleges in Sport), however this is the first time they have entered for rugby.

The girls are raising funds to ensure that they can all make the most of this opportunity. The fundraising events are all fun and active including: sponsored bike rides (including the 130 mile long coast to coast cycle ride), rowing challenges (which involve a competition for the quickest time to row a full mile), rugby sessions, a rugby game on the 3G pitch at the college, a sponsored fell walk and a twelve hour rugbyathon with other local rugby teams coming to Lakes College to take part. They have also set up a Just Giving page for any donations. Each girls needs to raise £180 each to cover the cost of the weekend.

The five girls are going to Runshaw this week for training and to the RFU the week after. Their dedication and commitment is overwhelming and the College are proud to support their goals.
