[F]ree cycling taster sessions will soon be available at the newly constructed Harraby Cycle Circuit.

The construction works at the closed road cycle circuit are completed. Until main electrical connections are in place, the site will be open during restricted hours.

During this period, the track will be available free of charge. Sessions will be available from this Saturday (27 January) and will be split as follows:

  • Saturday and Sunday:  9am – 1pm adults’ only session and 1 – 4pm youth session (up to 16 years old).
  • Monday – Friday: 10am – 4pm – adults’ only session.

Local schools are also being given the opportunity to try out the track.

The facility’s address is Edgehill Road, Carlisle and parking for users of the site is available at the Harraby Sports Centre.

The electrical connections are anticipated to be completed by the end of March and the site will have an official opening event this summer.

The project was led by Carlisle City Council, working in partnership with Cumbria County Council and British Cycling.

The 1km long, 6m wide, tarmac surfaced circuit forms part of the Harraby Community Campus and is the only purpose built cycle circuit of its kind in Cumbria.

For all enquiries regarding the track, please contact GLL, who are managing the facility on Carlisle City Council’s behalf, telephone 01228 586756 or email [email protected]

The outdoor facility has been built on land behind Harraby Community Campus and provides a traffic-free site for cyclists of all ages and abilities to ride, train and compete.

The Harraby Community campus is based in the south-east of Carlisle. It includes a variety of community facilities. A community centre, café, 250-seat theatre and Barnardo’s Carlisle all form part of the site.

Sports facilities at the campus also include new football pitches and changing rooms. The campus was funded by Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council.
