Tony Lywood and Copeland Labour Party Members at today’s selection

[T]ony Lywood has been selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the Copeland constituency to stand in the next general election.

Tony is a local councillor in Keswick and works hard to represent local people. He has been heavily involved in the campaign to protect our NHS and in particular the hospitals in Whitehaven, Keswick and Millom.

He is an active supporter of the Community Housing Trust which is leading the push for affordable housing as well as the Local Parks Trust which provides local sport and leisure facilities.

Tony lives with his wife and three children who attend local schools.  In his spare time Tony enjoys spending time with his family who all enjoy rock climbing in the surrounding area and beyond.

Speaking after the selection, Tony said: “I’m really pleased to have been selected as the Copeland candidate for the next election. It is a real honour and I’m humbled that local members have put their faith in me.

“I will be out there talking to voters campaigning tirelessly so that Labour can win in Copeland. We don’t know when the next general election will be but I’m looking forward to the hard work ahead.

“As a local councillor I have seen the worst impacts of Tory policies here in Copeland with rising poverty, low wages and insecure housing.  I know that only a Labour Government can bring the change we need to make people’s lives better.”
