[A] MAN caught transporting large amounts of cocaine and cannabis in South Cumbria has been jailed for 40 months.

Alan John Peel, 56, was stopped by police in the Kirkby Lonsdale while driving an Audi A4 on January 30.

More than 55g of high purity cocaine – potentially worth up to £5,500 on the street – was recovered from the boot of the car. Almost 280g cannabis was also found inside the vehicle.

Carlisle Crown Court heard more cannabis and £1,280 cash was located during a subsequent search of Peel’s home.

And mobile phone analysis revealed text message “requests from street dealers for wholesale amounts” of illegal substances.

Peel, of Belfield Lawn, Rochdale, admitted possessing class A cocaine and class B cannabis, both with intent to supply; and having criminal property – the cash.

A man with “no significant previous convictions for drugs”, he was handed a 40-month jail term by Judge James Adkin.
