Workington Athletic’s Ash Kelly fires home for his hat trick (Martin Perry)

[I]n the Smurfit Kappa Cumberland Count League, it was Semi Finals day in the Smurfit Kappa Conway Cup, and in a real reversal of fortune, Carlisle City Reserves, hammered 12-1 by Netherhall last week, overcame Aspatria 4-0 at Gillford Park with goals from Reece Robinson, Lewis Dickinson, Ryan Scott and Jack Baker. A more predictable result was Workington Athletic’s 7 -0 win over Cleator Moor Reserves with the goals from Ash Kelly with a hat trick, two for Greg Quayle and one each for Tony Berwick and Marc Mesenger. Workington and Carlisle will meet in the Final at the Lakes College 3G pitch on Saturday the 21st April at 14.00.

In the Premier Division, Cockermouth notched up a important 6-2 win over Silloth, with Cockermouth’s goals from a brace apiece for Luke Ivinson and Nick Wood, and goals from Kyran Graham and Luke Graham. The Seagulls’ goals were two first half goals from Eddie Mullins and Kieran Little to make it 2-2 at half time, but after losing their ‘keeper to a red car for a deliberate hand ball outside of the area Silloth fell away to the defeat. Cockermouth eased their relegation worries with the win, but having played all of their fourteen League games, Silloth are now in the basement slot and are relegated, a far cry from last season when then battled for the League title, ending up third, and tasted knockout success, winning the Benevolent Cup.

In Division One, Bransty Rangers stay in second place with a 8-1 win over Whitehaven AFC Reserves, with goals for Aidan Graham, Stewart O’Pray, Liam O’Pray and Bradley O’Pray, Ryan Cornish, Dan Fowler, Mark Callan and an own goal.  UniSun lost out 1-4 at home to Borough, with Mike Mull on the scoresheet for the home side and Jack Edmondson, Andrew Marshalsea, Lee Wolfe and Robbie Watson scoring for Borough.  And In the Divisional Cup, Gosforth lost out 1-2 to Pirelli with Rhys Singleton scoring for Gosforth and Hodgson and Lewis on the scoresheet for Pirelli.
