Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path – Fundraising Event

[T]hrelkeld Village Hall is actively supporting the campaign to re-build the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path. As most people will know, during Storm Desmond in December 2015, the much-loved railway path from Keswick to Threlkeld was extensively damaged – with 2 bridges missing and one badly damaged. So, it has been closed ever since. However, the LDNPA has been applying for grants and has started a fund-raising appeal, led by the Lake District Foundation, to get the route re-built.

Threlkeld Activities Association is enthusiastically supporting this appeal and, in particular, is staging a benefit gig, with all profits going to the cause on Saturday 14th April at 8pm. All the artistes are giving their time for free, so a significant sum should be raised for the cause. The folk concert will feature Mazurka, Burnt Horse and Cukes. Mazurka play an eclectic folk mix, including a large variety of British folk and further afield to French, Eastern European and Klezmer music. The instruments played include mandola, button accordion, concertina, fiddle, hurdygurdy, mandolin, bouzouki and guitars by the band members. Burnt Horse is a local folk duo and Cukes is a ukulele band based in Cockermouth, who will start the evening with a wide range of music from classical to country with everything in between, in fact, everything that sounds great on a uke! There may even be an opportunity to sing-along!

All-in-all it promises to be an entertaining evening with the added benefit of raising lots of money for the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path appeal at the same time! There will also be a raffle with some fantastic prizes. Raffle tickets will only be sold on the night – so the odds of winning could be very good! Prizes include a £100 voucher for the Horse & Farrier Inn, a voucher from the White Horse Inn, a watercolour from a local artist Sylvia Stevens, Day Passes from Keswick Leisure Centre, vouchers from King Kong climbing wall, wine from Grapevine, Herdy mugs and a cycle helmet from Keswick Mountain Bikes.

Please support this worthy cause! Saturday, 14th April 2018 at Threlkeld Village Hall, Threlkeld, CA12 4SJ. Starts 8pm. Bar and Box Office from 7:15pm. Tickets £10 (£5 under 18s) from Threlkeld Village Hall Coffee Shop. PO or on-line at www.threlkeldvillagehall.org/whats-on. Box Office Enquiries 07733 790308.
