[S]tudents, staff and parents gave a warm welcome to UTC Ambassador, Michelle Dewberry on Thursday 10th May 2018. Michelle hosted a motivational talk for Year 11 students, had afternoon tea with student ambassadors.

Michelle has been vocal in her backing of UTCs which deliver specialist education aligned to the needs of industry.

Michelle said: “I absolutely believe that choice is critical in raising aspirations and helping young people to realise their potential. UTCs offer that choice to young people. Energy Coast UTC is a shining example of a UTC that has made a massive difference to the lives of young people with excellent examination results and access to industry standard resources. Their track recording of helping 88% of their sixth formers into high quality apprenticeships is impressive.”

Shannon Nesbitt a Year 12 student at The Energy Coast UTC said: “Michelle was very inspirational. When she spoke about her personal background and the adversities she had to overcome in order to be successful in the business world, I felt empowered to be successful in a traditionally male dominated industry.”
