[A] couple from Whitehaven have been jailed after pleading guilty to burglary.

Glen William Scott, aged 44, and Corrie Elizabeth Curwen, aged 24, both of Bowness Road, Whitehaven, were sentenced today (1st June), at Carlisle Crown Court for the offence of Burglary other than Dwelling.

  • Corrie Curwen received an 2 year custodial sentence

The offences were committed on Sunday 29th April, at Hair Supplies, Whitehaven. The front door of the premises was broken and products worth thousands of pounds taken.

Following a tip off from a concerned member of the public and a prompt investigations by officers, Scott and Curwen were arrested the same morning.

Detective Constable, Mark Ayton said: “I hope this case serves as a warning to those tempted to commit similar offences. All crimes are reprehensible, but they brazenly targeting a local town centre business. Despite the action of these two there is a great sense of community here, and I would like to thank the member of the public who took the initiative to contact police when they spotted the pair.

“Following the report, officers worked astutely, and within 24 hours of leaving the scene of their crime, Glen Scott and Corrie Curwen were arrested, charged and remanded in custody.

“I am pleased to say that officers successfully recovered £3645 worth of stolen hairdressing equipment during the investigation.”
