[T]WO men accused of an alleged Christmas Day attack on a man who claims he was “left for dead” in a town centre street have gone on trial.
Neil Johnston, 43, and 30-year-old Kenny Stilgoe each deny causing Callum Marrs grievous bodily harm. It follows an incident in Cockermouth’s Market Place during the early hours of December 25 in 2016 when all three men were present.
Giving evidence to a Carlisle Crown Court jury today (WED), Mr Marrs said he was grabbed in a headlock and then punched repeatedly in the face after being dragged into the road. He alleged Johnston and Stilgoe also tried to hit him with a metal pole.
The court heard Mr Marrs had suffered injuries which included a bleed on the brain, multiple facial fractures and a broken nose.
However, Mr Marrs refuted a suggestion, made during cross-examination, that he had attacked Johnston, of Lonsdale Close, Crosby Villa, with punches. “I didn’t do any attacking,” he insisted. “He has left me for dead.”
Meanwhile, Stilgoe, of Firlands, Carlisle, is said to deny taking part in any alleged attack on Mr Marrs.
The trial continues.
