Nathan Bell

[A] CARLISLE thug has been jailed for a sustained attack on his ex-partner.

Nathan Bell, 27, drunkenly lashed out at his then girlfriend, Jodie Liddell, on September 1.

Bell gouged Miss Liddell’s eyes with his thumbs, bit her nose and strangled her during a prolonged assault at his Brookside family home in Raffles. Bell also punched Miss Liddell, who needed hospital treatment and later suffered from panic attacks.

Carlisle Crown Court heard the victim had penned an impact statement, and said: “I fear he will kill someone in the future.”

Bell was convicted by a jury of assaulting Miss Liddell, causing her actual bodily harm, and also of three breaches of a restraining order which had been put in place to stop him contacting her.

Judge James Adkin jailed Bell for 27 months today (MON), saying: “I consider that you present a significant – indeed imminent – risk to any young woman who has the misfortune to be persuaded to be in a relationship with you.” Bell was also banned from contacting Miss Liddell for life.
