
A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident of racial or religious abuse on a West Cumbrian street.
It happened on Duke Street in Whitehaven at around 2pm on May 29.
Police said they were made aware of a man shouting racially-aggravated comments towards two other men.
The 62-year-old from Whitehaven has been arrested on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm or distress.
He has been released on police bail with conditions.
Enquiries are ongoing to determine if there are any more victims of the crime, the force added and officers want to establish if there are any other potential witnesses or video recordings from this incident.
Cumbria police said: “Hate crime and hate incidents have a profound impact on victims’ families and communities.
“Local officers are engaging with community leaders who have been provided with crime prevention advice and safeguarding measures are in place, such as CCTV.”
