[A]t approximately 5.30pm a collision occurred on the A5092 between Gawthwaite and Grizebeck, between two vehicles – an orange Fiat Sciento and a white Citroen Berlingo van.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The driver of the Fiat was a female, believed to be from the Shropshire area. She was flown by air ambulance to Preston Royal Infirmary where her condition is described as critical but stable. Family have been contacted.
“The driver of the Citroen van is a 32-year-old male from the Cumbria area, and suffered minor injuries.”
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 17:35 firefighters were called to a two vehicle collision in Grizebeck, Kirkby-in-Furness.
“One casualty was released from a car by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment and then handed into the care of paramedics.
“Crews were at the scene for two hours.”
