[O]n Friday 13th July, Maryport Golf Club hosted its annual Pink Day in support of Breast Cancer Care. Over 100 lady golfers from across the county joined forces in donning fun fuchsia outfits and teeing off in competition, raising a fantastic total of £2850.00 for the breast cancer care units at Whitehaven and Carlisle Hospitals. Every penny donated from the event goes towards amenities within the wards to improve the quality of experience for patients and the club will be presenting their grand total to nurses at the Breast Cancer Care unit at Hensingham hospital on Monday, August 13th.

For the first time, Carlisle-based Facilities Management company Orian Solutions sponsored the event having been approached by former employee and Maryport Ladies Captain Margaret Gunson. Orian’s Marketing representative Clary Hayes, who attended the event, said: “It is a great privilege to join the efforts of the Club in raising funds for such an important cause. So many of us are personally affected by breast cancer and raising awareness through events like Pink Day can really change lives. It’s testament to the power of high spirits and positivity towards collectively battling the disease and its effects.”

Following the last team’s return from playing, prizes were presented inside the Club House for accolades including Best Dressed Team, Top Player and of course, Winning Team – awarded to Workington Club players; Ann Martin, Patricia Green and Kay Stout.

Many local businesses and attractions also lent their support to the event by donating generous raffle prizes, further demonstrating the unified and supportive spirit of Cumbria. The grand total raised by the ladies now stands at £17,850.00 and with Pink Day set to enter its 9th year, this much-loved annual tradition is set to continue for many years to come. Irene Telford, longstanding Maryport Club member and Pink Day organiser, praised the hard work and support that went into making the event such a success: “We are proud of this achievement but acknowledge the fact that without the help of our many sponsors and supporters it would be impossible.”

If you would like to donate to the Club’s grand total, please email Margaret at: [email protected].
