[E]mergency services are dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the M6 northbound at J41.
The M6 was closed in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land.
The southbound carriageway has now reopened.
The M6 is closed northbound between junctions 40 and 41 near Penrith.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 7:20pm firefighters were called to the M6 northbound, between junctions 40 and 41, to a road traffic collision with a person trapped.
“A 4×4 vehicle had left the carriageway and gone down an embankment.
“Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment, stabilisation equipment and a chocks to release one casualty from the vehicle.
“One further casualty was out of the vehicle on arrival of the crews.
“The crews, from Penrith and Lazonby, were at the scene for one hour and 40 minutes.”
