Aminul Goni

Police are searching for a missing Newcastle man who is believed to be travelling across the North of the country.

Aminul Goni, 23, was reported missing to police in the early hours of this morning after last being seen at 12.30pm yesterday.

He was seen leaving his home on Fenham Hall Drive in his car but the vehicle was later found a quarter of a mile from his home.

Enquiries to trace Aminul are ongoing but both police and his family are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Officers believe the 23-year-old travelled to Edinburgh city centre this morning but that he has since travelled to the Carlisle area.

Now a senior police officer is appealing for help from the public to bring him home safely.

Chief Inspector Lisa Hogan, of Central Area Command, said: “We believe Aminul has been travelling across the North of the country and we are working with Police Scotland and Cumbria Police.

“This is out of character for him and his family are getting more and more worried the longer he is missing. We know he left his home address by car yesterday lunchtime but when he failed to return they have called police.

“I want to appeal directly to Aminul and ask him to get in touch with police so we can make sure he is safe and well. Your family are getting more and more worried and just want you home.

“Anyone else who knows his whereabouts, or sees somebody matching his description, should call police on 101.”

Aminul is described as Asian, of medium build, with short black hair and a black beard. He was last seen wearing a t-shirt, gillet, baseball cap and dark trousers..

Anyone who knows his whereabouts should call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting log 13 of 06/09/18 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
