Penrith AFC Ladies made history by playing their first ever game in the NW Regional Premier Division.

Two goals in the last 10 mins turned this game around when the points seemed to be drifting away.

Penrith had squandered two golden opportunities in the first half but Finney too had their chances the best of which saw a long range effort crash against the cross bar before their striker stab the rebound wide of the post.

HT 0-0

The 2nd half continued to be a tight affair however it was Finney who broke the deadlock in the 64th min when Georgia Smethurst’s attempted clearance rebounded off a Finney striker and flew somewhat fortunately into the net.

Penrith used their 14 player squad to good effect to maintain the tempo and high work rate and this pressure paid off in the 80th minute when Sharina Robinson was brought down in the penalty area. It was Robinson who converted the spot kick.

Robinson was unlucky 2 mins later when her long range effort bounced off the foot of the post.

But Penrith were not to be denied and in the 84th min Sarah Smith pounced on a loose ball in the Finney area and fired home to claim a hard earned 3 points.

FT 1-2

Next Sunday Penrith welcome one of the title favirites Stockport County to Frenchfields Park Stadium, ko 2pm.

Penrith : Jones, Smethurst, Alderson, C.Smith, McCormick, Hopton, Coulthard(Han Fawkes), S.Smith, Robinson, Nutter(Johnston), Campbell(Hea Fawkes).
