A CARLISLE crook has been sent to prison after committing his 194th crime.
Anthony Rennie Sheckley, 49, was sentenced at the city’s crown court today (MON), for a bungled burglary bid he made earlier this year.
The court heard how a shipping container used as a makeshift shed had been left locked and secured outside a married couple’s address in Buchanan Road, Currock, in Carlisle.
But between February 5 and 11, it appeared a tool had been used by a crook as unsuccessful attempts were made to force entry.
There was a “large quantity of blood” on the shipping container, and when police ran a sample through a national database, it flagged up a match to Sheckley, of Sheehan Crescent, Carlisle.
The container was not entered, and nothing was stolen.
But in court today (MON), Sheckley – a man who was said to have 193 previous offences on his criminal record – admitted an attempted burglary charge.
He was handed a 12-week jail term by Judge James Adkin.
