Girl Power: L-R: Captain, Sue King, Helen Grose, Harriet Barker, Margaret Bebington and Sarah Glover

The Ladies section at Carus Green golf club are celebrating once again, after winning at the final of the Three Counties League. The winning team comprised 2018 Club Junior Champion and Ladies Champion, Harriet Barker; Carus Golf Club Manager, Margaret Bebington; Helen Grose and Sarah Glover. The formidable foursome, captained by Sue King, played the ladies from Morecambe golf club at Kirkby Lonsdale in a match play formation, and with conditions fine, the winning score was 3.5 for Carus and .5 for Morecambe. The Three Counties League trophy will be awarded at a presentation evening at Kirkby Lonsdale on 12 October.

It’s been a tremendous season for the Ladies section at Carus Green with the Silver Team and Cecil Leitch Team also winning their leagues. Individually, together with Harriet’s accomplishments, Margaret won the Moulie Moore County Vets Best Nett Trophy championship and the Rotary Club of St Helens Golf Day at Royal Birkdale, both in April, Lady Captain, Ali Dufty was named the County Bronze Champion and 15-year-old golfing superstar, Caitlin Whitehead flew the flag for Carus Green on international shores. In July, she won the U16 European Young Masters in Norway and just the following month, won both the individual and team events at the Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championship in Hong Kong.

“As the season draws to a close, the Ladies can be extremely proud of their achievements this year,” said Carus Green owner, Graham Curtin. “We do have a growing Ladies section at Carus and with talented young players such as Harriet and Caitlin inspiring the next generation of female golfers, we know this section of the club will continue to flourish. I applaud their latest accomplishment.”
